The
Mutsy
Spider is a small compact stroller which can be converted
into a baby
travel system
if required. It is reasonably lightweight, weighing 9kg and is suitable
for a child from around 6 months of age, from birth if used as a travel
system.
As well as being comfortable and well padded, the seat unit of the Mutsy Spider
is both spacious and tall. However it differs to many other
similar pushchairs in that the wings are very shallow. The seat can be
reclined to provide your child with extra comfort when sleeping or
placed in an upright position for general use, the recline system is
easy to operate and consists of a toggle and strap. For additional
comfort the footrest can be extended to suit your child as they grow.
The manoeuvrability of the Mutsy
Spider
is one of its strong points; it’s both easy to push and
provides
both a quiet and smooth ride as a result of plastic grey
wheels
covered with a thin rubber tyre. It is very easy to steer and can quite
easily be pushed along one handed. The handle is a single foam covered
bar and can be adjusted between a height of 90-104cm’s which
should be enough variation to suit parents
of differing heights.
The Mutsy Spider
has a standard 5 point safety harness and both the crotch and shoulder
straps are padded for extra comfort.
The folding mechanism on the Mutsy
Spider
comes in 3 parts and is a little unusual to say the least. It will take
some getting used to and without the instruction manual would be very
difficult to work out. When you first get the pushchair it is well
worth spending some time practising how this works.
The hood on the Spider has good height clearance so is suitable for
older children. It’s actual protection from the sun is a bit
limited and extra an extra cover maybe required for the legs and feet.
For storage there is a shopping basket in the base of the pushchair and
a rain cover is also included
What is good about the Mutsy
Spider
- The manoeuvrability of the pushchair,
it’s so easy to push one handed
- Very stylish looks
- The range by which the handle can be
adjusted
And what could be better
- The folding mechanism is difficult to
work out at first and definitely requires the instruction manual.
- The rear wheel base of the pushchair is a
lot wider at 67.5cm’s than other similar models such as the
Quinny Zapp
- Quite heavy
Overall
Impression
If you are looking for a pushchair that moves away from the norm in
looks and features then the Mutsy
Spider
may be just what you’re looking for. With its stylish looks,
wingless seat, and lack of a rear axel it certainly looks the part. It
provides a comfortable environment for your child whilst offering
excellent manoeuvrability. However, you should be aware that the rear
wheel base is wider than other similar pushchairs and the folding
mechanism does take some time to perfect.
