For
any would be parent one of the most important purchases you are going
to make is a pram or pushchair. So before we go any further looking at
the factors which should be considered before purchasing a pram or a
pushchair let me briefly describe the difference between the two
The pram is generally thought to have originated from Victorian
England, with its high wheels and its half cover to protect the baby
from the sun and rain it became popular as a portable bed for a new
born baby. Still to this day people tend to buy a pram for a new born
as it provides a comfier sleeping environment and allows the baby to
face the pusher
Pushchairs (also known as strollers and buggies) are generally for
older children, up to the age of three, in which the child faces
forward and sits more upright. The child can still be laid flat in a
pushchair; however the sleeping environment is nothing like as good as
that provided by a pram.
When purchasing prams
and pushchairs, what are the factors people should
consider:
Lifestyle
This is an important factor when considering whether to go for a pram
or a pushchair. If you do plenty of walking then a pram is probably the
best choice as it will allow the baby to lie and sleep in a comfy
environment, whist always facing the pusher. However, if you do a lot
of travelling, particularly on public transport, then the extra
convenience a pushchair provides when it comes to folding away, will
make life much easier.
Cost
Buying both prams and
pushchairs at different times in a childs life can be
quite expensive. So a popular option here is to purchase a 2 in 1
system which allows the pram to be used as a pram whilst the baby is
still new born and then as they grow, to be switch around so they can
be sat more upright and face forward much like a pushchair.
Size
A pram will generally be much larger than a pushchair, both when
upright and when folded. You will need to consider where you will store
the pram and or pushchair and how you will carry it about. Ensure you
check the pram especially will fit into the boot of your car before you
buy. Also with a pram you will tend to have a separate chasis to the
baby compartment, which again takes up more space, when compared to a
pushchair which is generally an all in one.
These are just three of the factors to consider for people considering
buying prams and
pushchairs.
Through out the site there are some of the most popular prams and pushchairs
available on the market today so please take a look around.
